A Romanian ballet buff has reported the national ballet to trading standards officers – because they didn’t have enough swans in a performance of Swan Lake.

Florin Balcescu claims original notes for the Tchaikovsky work show there should be 24 swans on stage but he counted just 16.

Now trading standards officers are investigating the complaint into the Romanian National Opera house in Bucharest.

With the digital deadline looming most people are forking out for the latest in cutting edge TV sets. But not antique enthusiast Richard Howard who is sticking with a set he bought 51 years ago.

Instead of buying a fancy new TV he’s keeping the 1957 flame walnut encased set and has had it converted to receive digital channels. His father bought the set when he was aged eight and the television has been a cherished feature in the family home ever since.

Not only is it in perfect working order, the classic set, which enthralled Mr Howard through his boyhood years and brought him the first images of the moon landing, is now wired up to receive the 20 plus channels of the digital age.

According to Digital UK, the body coordinating the switch to digital, it is the oldest set ever to be converted to digital.

This is the moment when a mugger provided police with an unmistakable clue to his identity – by admiring his reflection in the lens of a CCTV camera.

The image shows the thief moments after he had stolen a £200 silver necklace and bracelet from a 16-year-old boy.

Rather than escape, he decided to try on the jewellery, apparently unaware – or unconcerned – that he was being filmed by the camera he was gazing into.

Mothers of twins seldom get the recommended full night’s sleep and often suffer from depression, U.S. researchers said.

A U.S. researcher found the mothers of twins sleep an average of 5.4 hours in a 24-hour period, rather than the recommended 7-8 hours. Almost half of the mothers reported mild to severe symptoms of depression.

What a waste of research funds. Social “sciences” are really adept at stating the obvious and passing it off as “research”. And guess how many mothers were involved? Fourteen. Statisticians and epidemiologists will be having strokes.
