It’s a bad sign when your pilot asks you to pray

A worried Iranian airline pilot asked passengers to start praying after his plane was hit by a technical glitch early on Thursday, highlighting once again the notorious record of Tehran’s aircraft.

The Aseman Airlines Boeing plane had taken off from Tehran airport after a six-hour delay, but had to return following a technical fault, the ISNA news agency quoted a passenger as recounting…

“The pilot told the passengers ‘the plane is facing a technical problem and has to return. So please pray.’”

Bottle fed Koi?

These Koi Carp are more at home with a baby’s bottle than a sprinkling of fish food in their tank. The fish have been brought up on a diet of powdered milk by their owner in an effort to keep them strong.

Ding Feng, 47, owns the Hanzhou Aquarium in eastern China and he’s focused on making sure his fish grow quickly so they are worth more to customers.

Koi Carp that are the right colours can end up selling for more than £10,000 in the country.

Crime tip: See that black belt? She has it for a reason.

A black-belt German tourist gave her Australian attacker the chop – and a karate kick to the head – after being assaulted in the Outback town of Alice Springs, police said on Monday.

The 20-year-old hit back hard when the unknown assailant punched her for not handing over a cigarette, forcing him to flee…

“She punched him three times in the face with a karate punch and kicked him with a karate kick. She did pretty well – not that we’re encouraging that sort of thing.”

Eluding police tip: Try not to be run over by your own vehicle

A police chase in Maine ended when the driver, while attempting to elude police, crashed into a stand of trees, jumped out of the vehicle without putting it in park, and was run over by his own vehicle.

Why, yes, as a matter of fact alcohol was involved. How did you guess?

One cool cabin attendant

After listening to the familiar speech of stowing all carry-on items and how the seat cushion can be used as a floatation device, Delta flight attendant Robin Schmidt then asks a favor of everyone on board.

She passes around a journal, asking people to write a personal message to a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan. When the journal is filled with jokes, prayers and notes of encouragement, she packs it up and sends it along with a care package to a soldier.

“This is not about war or politics,” said Schmidt… “It’s about the personal sacrifice these soldiers are making and if I can do something to brighten their day, then I will.”

Schmidt has brightened a lot of days. Since 2002, she has sent care packages to soldiers she meets on her flights or to soldiers who are recommended to her. She began passing the journals around the plane in 2005 and has done so on every one of her flights since then. Hundreds of soldiers have received a journal written just for them.
