The Red Deer [Canada] winners of nearly $14 million picked their numbers based on weather patterns in Scarborough, Ont., where the Lotto 6/49 is drawn, lotto officials say.

Robert Medwid, a 39-year-old stucco contractor, and Sabrina Lonsberry, a 32-year-old department store claims employee, had the winning numbers on the Lotto 6/49 for Nov. 29, taking home the $13.8-million jackpot.

Kathleen Polyak of the Alberta Lottery Fund said Medwid used an unusual method to pick his lucky numbers. “He watched the weather and he assessed the weather patterns in Scarborough where Lotto 6/49 is drawn. So he looked at things like climate and humidity and he came up with a way of picking numbers using that method and he used those for four years.”

Role model

While out on patrol early this morning, Idaho Falls police officer Jessica Hunt saw something strange headed her way. She was looking for a stolen front end loader worth more than 90-thousand dollars…when it almost hit her patrol car.

Convicted felon Shawn Pruett allegedly stole the loader and two other pieces of heavy equipment from McDermott field. He drove the equipment all around town.. and allegedly used the loader to flip a car over on Jennie Lee Drive.

Pruett was spotted driving his girlfriend’s kids to school in Ammon this morning in the machine… and word on the street is the police chief even saw him driving it around town this weekend–thought it was unusual and asked his officers to check into it.

Pruett is charged with grand theft, driving on a suspended license, and felony injury to property…among other charges.
