Oldster's View

Fight Against Maturity

Lost your goldfish? Or maybe your leg?

Countless forgotten items from [New York] subways and buses are brought in weekly.

The commonplace include backpacks, books, cell phones and other electronic devices. There are gloves, wallets, keys, eyewear, umbrellas and a growing collection of canes. Then there are the not-so-conventional articles: dentures and a denture maker, Bibles, a bowling ball, an amplifier, a computer monitor, bicycles (lots of them), luggage, undergarments, musical instruments — and a prosthetic leg.

The lost-and-found center is a busy place. Last year it took in more than 11,000 items.
