No such thing as Zamboni DWI

via Yahoo! News

It’s not drunken driving in New Jersey if it involves a Zamboni. A judge ruled the four-ton ice rink-grooming machines aren’t motor vehicles because they aren’t useable on highways and can’t carry passengers.

Zamboni operator John Peragallo had been charged with drunken driving in 2005 after a fellow employee at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown told police the machine was speeding and nearly crashed into the boards. Police said Peragallo’s blood alcohol level was 0.12 percent. A level of 0.08 is considered legally drunk in New Jersey.

Peragallo appealed, and Superior Court Judge Joseph Falcone on Monday overturned his license revocation and penalties.

121 Merit badges!

scout.jpgAn Eagle Scout from Montgomery County [Maryland] has reached a rare Boy Scouts of America milestone. James Calderwood, 18, of Chevy Chase, Md., has earned all 121 possible merit badges offered in the United States under the scouting program.

The Georgetown Preparatory School senior has met scouting requirements in fields ranging from public health, photography, archery and even home repairs since launching his scouting career in first grade.

While it takes 21 merit badges to meet Eagle Scout requirements, very few scouts have ever collected the full compliment of available merit badges.

OOPS! Accidental car thief

A Romanian woman has turned herself in to the police after she mistakenly stole a car on her way home from church.

The woman told police she borrowed a car from a friend to go to an evening sermon in the town of Miercurea Ciuc, Harghita county. After the service, the woman, whose identity was not revealed, went to what she believed was the same car, unlocked the doors, started the engine and drove back to her friend’s house.

In the morning, the friend realised she had the wrong car in the garage and called the woman who realised her mistake and went to the police.

Police confirmed that the two cars wre the same make and color and the keys fit both cars.
