It snowed in Kenya…yet another example of global warming

Residents of Nyahururu north district were treated to a rare occurrence, when a heavy down pour of snow hit the area leaving a massive block of snow that covered a large expanse of land.

The Meteorological Department however explains that a heavy cloud blown from the Congo basin that froze once it approached the Nyandarua area caused the large snow.

Gathanji village in Nyandarua North district, and the residents here too could not believe their eyes after it begun to snow at 2.pm with the snow covering over 200 hectares of land.

Michelle L. Farnum did not seem surprised when Oak Lawn police knocked on her door Monday afternoon. Asked if she knew why officers were there, the 46-year-old woman had no doubt.

“Yes, because of what I have growing in my back yard,” she said, according to police. “My marijuana plants.”

All 170 of them, according to police.

Farnum, who told officers she recently had suffered a stroke, was charged with production of marijuana and possession of marijuana, police said.

“She made a comment to the guys that she was using it for her medical issues,” Oak Lawn police Division Chief Mike Kaufmann said. “But just because of the sheer number, we had no choice but to charge her.”

Crime tip: Don’t sign your own name when using a stolen credit card

Police didn’t have much trouble finding a man accused of using a stolen credit card — he signed his own name on one of the receipts.

The 21-year-old Iowa City man is accused of using the credit card to buy a latte at a coffee house and to buy cigarettes at a tobacco store. When he used the allegedly stolen credit card to buy the smokes, he signed the receipt with his own signature.

If you lose your hat on a roller coaster…just leave it there

A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.

Park officials say the man lost his hat on a ride Saturday and climbed two security fences to retrieve it. That’s when he was struck by the Ninja roller coaster and knocked unconscious.

He remained hospitalized Wednesday.
