OK! Pay up deadbeat! Oh. Wait…you really are dead…

A German mathematician who died 450 years ago has been sent a letter demanding that he pay for a TV licence. Germany’s GEZ sent the bill to the last home address of algebra expert Adam Ries, who bought the property in 1525.

“We received a letter saying ‘To Mr Adam Ries’ on it, with the request to pay his television and radio fees,” said Annegret Muench, who now heads a club honouring the mathematician, which uses the house as its HQ.

Miss Muench returned the letter to the GEZ with a note explaining the request had come too late, as Ries had died in 1559. But she still received a reminder a few weeks later.

Well, it would save a lot of time…

A Croatian motorist who crashed through an undertakers’ window woke up to find himself in an open coffin.

Radoslav Pokrajac, 30, was thrown from the car through an open window and sailed through the air before landing in a display of the funeral director’s special offers in Sibinj.

“He was very frightened,” said one rescue worker. “When he woke up he didn’t know if he was alive or dead.”

Crime Tip: Drive legally when you have 347 bags of heroin in your car

Three Pennsylvania residents were arrested Wednesday following a motor vehicle stop on Route 80 after police found them in possession of 347 bags of heroin, police said Thursday.

Patrolman Matt Holland was traveling in the highway’s center lane when a 2002 Hyundai in the right lane crossed over to the center lane, forcing Holland to brake. Holland pulled over the car occupied by Jenna Nyland, 24, Ricky White, 44, and William Coates Jr., 47, all of Scranton, Pa., police said.

Holland spoke with Nyland, the driver, and a subsequent investigation determined the three people possessed 347 bags of suspected heroin, police said.
