Chinese topple by the thousand

More than 10,000 people in northern China have set a world record for the longest chain of human dominoes.

Arranged in lines, they slowly collapsed backward onto each other in sequence from a sitting position like a line of toppling dominoes.

The 10,267 people who took part wore color-coordinated clothes that spelled out in English and Chinese the name of the city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia where the record attempt was made Thursday.

I know an old lady who swallowed a fly…but not glasses

A North Dakota inmate was not afraid of making a spectacle of himself when he grabbed another suspect’s glasses and started to eat them.

Burleigh County Sheriff’s Maj. Les Witkowski says the 42-year-old inmate at the county detention center became frustrated Aug. 1 when he was not able to talk to the chaplain, so he swallowed both lenses and a piece of the metal frame.

You think your natural gas bill stinks? This one really does.

Paying bills usually stinks, but gas bills from a utility in Washington state will include something truly odorous this month: the stench of rotten eggs.

As part of a safety campaign, Puget Sound Energy is including a scratch-and-sniff pamphlet with its billing statements to remind customers of what leaking gas smells like.

Is this the ugliest building in England?

Some of the most beautiful buildings in the world are designed to be both sleek and eco-friendly. And then there’s the Strata Tower, which improves urban density and has three wind turbines. And it’s been named Britain’s ugliest new building.

The Strata Tower won that questionable honor in an annual competition held by Building Design magazine. It’s the tallest residential building in London, standing at 480 feet, so it’s good from a density standpoint as well as having wind turbines.
