Bicycles aren’t the best getaway vehicles. Especially if you run into a police car.

A man robbed an Anchorage bank and escaped on a bicycle but didn’t get far, police said Thursday.

The suspect crashed his bike into a patrol car, slid across the hood and took off running but was detained half a block away five minutes after the robbery, Anchorage Police Lt. Dave Parker said.

Crime tip: When robbing a bank be sure to plan ahead

A would-be Japanese bank robber asked staff how he should carry out the crime before meekly obeying a request to leave and then accidentally stabbing himself in the leg with a knife he was carrying.

Crime tip: When robbing a bank it’s a good idea to know when they’re open

Maybe the bank robber needed the money to buy a watch. It would seem he needed one after arriving six minutes after the Guardian Credit Union in Waukesha closed. Police said a man wearing a ski mask entered the first set of doors at 5:36 p.m. Wednesday with a gun, apparently not realizing the bank was closed.

Not exactly Moriarity, but then most crooks aren’t.

bad one

A Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, man was arrested for bank robbery Monday at the address he conveniently supplied the cops when he left his wallet on a teller’s counter when he made his getaway.

Did I mention that the “gun” in his pocket was actually a “blackened banana?”  I’m not quite sure what “blackened” means. If it was that ripe I hope he didn’t squeeze it too hard.

Seems like a divorce would have been simpler

A central Pennsylvania man said he robbed a bank in 2007 to go to jail and get away from his overbearing wife. At a sentencing hearing Monday, 39-year-old Anthony Miller said he robbed a bank… because he wanted to leave his then-wife but she had threatened to commit suicide if he did.

Defense attorney Robert Beyer said Miller approached tellers with a BB gun, asked for money and told them to call the police. He said Miller even asked for updates on their efforts to reach authorities.

Crime tip: It’s best not to flag down a cop to make your getaway

Out of prison for just over three weeks, Mark E. White chose the wrong car to try to hitch a ride with on Wednesday.

Just two blocks from the Citizens Bank at 2815 E. Genesee in Saginaw that he allegedly robbed five minutes earlier, White, 50, flagged down Saginaw Township Detective Scott Jackson of the auto theft division for a ride.

Jackson slowed his car enough to allow city patrol officer Ian Wegner enough time to provide backup, and a little more than three weeks after he was released from prison on parole, White was back in police custody.

DeKalb County [Georgia] Police and the FBI got the break of a lifetime in their investigation into a series of violent bank robberies…

picture-51

That’s because they have great pictures of all four suspects who robbed a Bank of America on Panola Road in DeKalb County Wednesday afternoon. The photos would not have been any better taken in a photo booth.

They were taken at a sporting goods store next to the bank. For some reason, the suspects went into that sporting goods store before they robbed the bank. Surveillance cameras in the store show everyone who walks in.

Wearing a cape, mask and surgical gloves, a would-be bank robber succeeded only in turning heads Tuesday after he walked into a Toronto [bank] branch, demanded cash, fled before staff could get it, and left a box filled with drywall that he said was a bomb.

Police were first called after the man walked into the TD Canada Trust bank at 904 Queen Street East, at Logan Avenue, around 3:11 p.m., Toronto police Staff Sergeant Donald Hale said. The man demanded cash, but fled soon after before crews could pass any over.
